Family Assistance Program
The JFCS Family Assistance Program (FAP) provides a comprehensive variety of services for community members who are struggling to make ends meet during the current economic downturn. Its mission is to provide the tools and resources needed to gain financial literacy and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Financial literacy services include crisis intervention and case management, vocational services, emotional support and counseling, financial and budget counseling, assistance in accessing entitlements, and other emergency financial assistance. Emergency cash assistance is available to families in dire economic need, on a case by case basis, as determined by their social workers.
Periodic workshops are provided free to community members on topics such as mortgage issues, budgeting, banking, and credit. Vocational services include free Back to Work support groups for the unemployed, which provide advice on networking, resume writing, and coping skills to deal with emotional issues. Free networking groups also offer ongoing support.
"Since I lost my job, our family lives from day to day and life is a constant struggle. Thanks to the cash assistance and holiday gift cards provided by JFCS, the holidays were a lot brighter for my three young children." - Family Assistance client
